When Stacy Gillette started her career in education 37 years ago, her goal was to become a high school counselor.

Local residents and visitors flocked to The Lake in Luverne Saturday to celebrate the Fourth of July and the nation’s 250th birthday.

Minnesota statewide early voting began last week for the Aug. 11 primary, and mail ballots will be sent out this week to those who vote by mail.

Citizen petitioners for a proposed Luverne Charter amendment appear to have gathered enough signatures in their second attempt to advance the measure to voters this fall.

The Hills City Council received the city’s audit results from Meulebroack, Taubert & Co. during a special session held on June 30 and also adopted a resolution for data practices.

The filing period for Rock County’s small cities, townships and school districts opens July 14 and runs through July 28.

Meetings 

Al-Anon group will meet each Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the library at United Methodist Church in Luverne. Use the back northwest door for entrance. 

Rock County voters will participate in the Aug. 11 primary affecting the Dist. 3 County Board seat.
