The Luverne girls’ tennis team fell to two strong teams this past week.
The Cardinals traveled to Blue Earth Tuesday, Aug. 27, and lost 6-1, and they lost to St. James 7-0 Thursday, Aug. 29, at home.
Luverne is now 5-4 with seven regular season meets left in the season.

The Luverne cross country team traveled to Marshall Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Beresford Friday, Aug. 30, where runners showed growth and improvement, according to head coach Pete Janiszeski.
“They’ve put together a couple of great runs and are eager to continue to grow and challenge their limits, which is what will drive them to get better each day,” he said.

The Luverne volleyball team fell 3-0 to Southwest Minnesota Christian at home, Tuesday, Aug. 27.
On Saturday, Aug. 31, LHS participated in the Rochester Tournament, winning one game and falling in four games.

The Luverne girls’ tennis team won four out of five team matches this past week, putting their season record at 5-2 through Aug. 23.
The Cardinals beat MCCRAY 6-1 and Yellow Medicine 7-0 on the road, Tuesday, Aug. 20.

The Luverne volleyball team traveled to New Ulm for the Cardinals’ first game of the 2024 season Saturday, Aug. 24.
“We played with some hesitation the first game, but came back and took control in the next three,” head coach Sarah DeBeer said.

The Luverne Redbirds fell to the Kimball Express 10-0 in the first round of the 2024 Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament Saturday, Aug. 17, in Belle Plaine.
With the loss, the Redbirds have been eliminated from the tournament and end their season with a 20-5 record.

The Luverne High School girls’ tennis team opened the 2024 season at home Saturday, Aug. 17.
In the first match of the season, the Cardinal girls beat Morris Area 4-3, and lost to Benson 4-3 in the second match of the day.

Mary Jo Graphenteen won the 2024 Women’s Club Tournament Friday, Aug. 16, at the Luverne Country Club.
Graphenteen shot a 77 in the 18-hole event.

Nath shot a two-day total gross score of 147, a 76 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday in the two-day, 36-hole tournament.

The Luverne Junior Legion baseball team made history this past weekend at the 2024 Division II State Tournament in St. Charles.

Luverne High School senior Lucky Dara won the 2024 Cardinal Pride competition on the opening day of football practice Monday, Aug. 12.
The Cardinal Pride competition is an eight-event challenge staged on the first morning of practice every season to test physical abilities of each high school player prior to the season.
