Keith Elbers, Hills, and Rick Peterson, Luverne, have filed for seats on the Rock County Board of Commissioners.

Last month Rock County Rural Water officials received approval from the county to apply fthey found out they’re ineligible.

The loan through the Minnwould have provided funding for a new storage shed. 

Hills-Beaver Creek School Board members will conduct strategic planning this fall or early winter. At their May 11 meeting, they voted to bring in an expert from the Minnesota School Boards Association to guide the process. 

Meetings 

Beaver Creek Township Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 8, in the township hall. 

Vienna Township will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, in the Kenneth Community Center. 

The scheduled demolition of the twin Jasper elevators shook homes and broke windows in nearby neighborhoods in town Wednesday, May 20. 

The explosion was heard as far away as Worthington and Sioux Falls, with reports of the loud boom and ground shaking up to 60 miles away. 

If you had asked me a few weeks ago whether a theater production of “The Hobbit” could capture the heart and the whimsy of Tolkien’s original book, I would have said, “Maybe, but it’d be tough.” 

The Minnesota Department of Human Services reports that 9,070 children and youth experienced out-of-home care in 2025. Of those 63% are in greater Minnesota.
