The little congregation of Palisade Lutheran Church in western Rock County hosted its annual “Sunday Fun Day” on Aug. 9 when it served over 100 community members a meal of burgers and hot dogs.

The following appeared in The Rock County Herald on Aug. 20, 1942. 

Monday, Aug. 24: Tuna noodle casserole, peas, hot spiced peaches, dinner roll, vanilla pudding with whipped topping. 

Tuesday, Aug. 25: Sloppy Joe on a bun, country vegetable blend, summer pasta salad and fruit crumble.

•Twenty-seven people participated in the first Stein-holding Contest during Saturday afternoon’s Rock River Beerfest. 

Teunis “Tony” Van Grootheest, age 84, of Luverne, Minn., died on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. 

Brock Raymond Thielbar, age 60, of Luverne, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, at his home. 

Randy John Landhuis, age 77, of Leota, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. 

Enore Joan Boelman, age 95, of Luverne, Minn., died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minn.
