•A young worker from Pipestone is lucky to be alive after a trench he was working in collapsed around him Thursday night at a worksite in Luverne. 

St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne and Zion Lutheran Church of Hardwick joined teamed up to offer vacation Bible school during the week of July 20 for under the theme, “Illumination Station.” 

Evelyn Reyne, age 90, of Luverne, Minn., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, S.D. 

Memorial service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, with gathering of family and friends beginning at 9 a.m. at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne. 

Organizers of the September’s Suicide Awareness Month are hoping to “Light the Town Purple” as a show of community support for brain health and suicide prevention. 

Rock County Fair Board president Lyle Rollag said the board is getting positive feedback about the 2026 event. “We’re really pleased with how everything went,” he said.
