All good things must eventually come to an end. Following an 11-0 win over Waseca in Luverne on Tuesday, the Luverne Cardinals extended their shutout streak to 17 periods.
That streak ended on Friday night when the New Ulm Eagles scored with 13 seconds left in the first period to tie the game at 1-1. The Eagles went on to beat the Cardinals 4-1.

The Luverne Cardinals went 0-3 on the mat this past week.
The Cardinals opened the week on Thursday, Feb. 25, in Springfield. The Tigers and Cardinals played to a 39-39 tie, but Luverne ultimately lost due to forfeits.
The Cardinals then returned home for a triangular against New Ulm and Blue Earth Area.

The Hills-Beaver Creek girls’ basketball team went 2-1 in conference games last week.
H-BC opened the week with a 55-43 loss to Edgerton on Tuesday. Following that loss, the Patriots bounced back to defeat Westbrook-Walnut Grove 51-28 on Friday, Feb. 26, in Hills.
Then on Monday, March 1, the Patriots edged Mountain Lake Area 45-42.

It was a battle of “whatever you can do I can do better” on Tuesday, Feb. 16, inside the Luverne gymnasium between Hills-Beaver Creek’s Cole Baker and Luverne’s Gannon Ahrendt.
Ahrendt scored 34 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Cardinals, while Baker scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The Luverne Cardinals girls’ hockey team extended its shutout streak to 14 periods.
Since giving up four goals in the first period against Dodge County on Friday, Feb. 5, the Cardinals have gone 14 straight periods without giving up a goal.

The Luverne girls’ basketball team couldn’t slow down the Worthington Trojans in the second half on Friday, Feb. 19.
The Trojans outscored the Cardinals 47-28 in the final 18 minutes to top the Cardinals 67-47.
