The most recent feature of the Rock County Historical Society’s America 250 Passport Series was a performance by a barbershop quartet at the Hinkly House in Luverne on Sunday, Aug. 23.

For the fourth straight year, Becker’s Hospital Review has named Sanford Luverne and Rock Rapids’ Tammy Loosbrock to the 2026 edition of its community hospital CEOs to know. 

The following appeared in The Rock County Herald on Aug. 27, 1942. 

Monday, Aug. 31: Barbecued chicken breast, scalloped potatoes, peas, wheat bread and brownie. 

Tuesday, Sept. 1: Swedish meatballs with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, dinner roll and chocolate chip cookie.

•Schomacker Flooring and Appliance owners and staff celebrated a ribbon-cutting and open house Monday night in their newly remodeled store at Cedar and Main streets. 

Elaine Marlys Muller was born on Jan. 17, 1941, to William and Esther (Busch) Bahn in Luverne, Minn. She was baptized and later confirmed, both in Trosky, Minn. Elaine lived her entire life in the rural Jasper, Minn., area.

LaVon Mohr, age 91, of Luverne, Minn., died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 10 to 11 a.m.
