The city of Luverne and airport staff hosted the annual fly-in and drive-in breakfast at the Luverne Municipal Airport Saturday under partially overcast skies and breezy conditions. 

Meetings 

Rock County Library Board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Rock County Community Library. The meeting is open to all. 

When students in Luverne and Hills-Beaver Creek school districts return to class next week, they’ll be greeted by familiar staff and also new faces in the classrooms.

“Amazing,” is how Chantel Connell describes what it’s been like to return to her job at the Announcer and Star Herald in Luverne. 

“I’m enjoying myself,” she said. “I’m visiting with my old clients. Getting back in my groove.” 

And she’s getting hugs. 

Luverne native Jennifer Iveland was recently promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. 

The promotion took place Aug. 3 in Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where her parents, Dan and Deb Iveland, and her husband, Matthew Knutson, attended. 

It’s been called to my attention that detoured traffic is creating hazards for pedestrians in the downtown area of Luverne. 

I learned last week that new refrigerators, the kind that cost $5,000, are equipped with cameras on the inside. 

Upon learning this, my immediate thought was, “Oh good. Another tool to curb late night snacking.” 

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison last week joined a coalition of 25 states in filing a lawsuit against the United States Postal Service (USPS) challenging its new rule that purports to grant USPS the authority to regulate mail voting in elections. 

The Luverne girls’ tennis team started the 2026 season falling to four tough teams in two double-header matches.

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, Luverne lost 6-1 to Yellow Medicine and 5-2 to MCCRAY (Maynard, Clara City and Raymond) on the road.
