They meet for four Wednesdays in June and July.Activities for children include art projects, games, learning centers, computer programs and reader’s theater.With support of many local businesses, H-BC offers a scholarship program to families in the area. Sponsorship comes from the Rock County Family Services Collaborative, Exchange State Bank, Minnwest Bank and H-BC Community Education.In addition to sponsorship funds, H-BC Elementary Principal Todd Holthaus applies for grant money from area businesses. This year the club was awarded money from both Midwest Wireless Community Caring Program and Operation Round-Up Sioux Valley Energy."We are so pleased to partner with Midwest Wireless Community Caring Program. The partnership will truly assist us in making our community stronger from our youngest of residents to our oldest of residents," said Holthaus.The company gave the program $1,300 through its Community Caring Program, which provides resources to organizations and endeavors that effectively improve the lives of people in Midwest Wireless communities.Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis and are considered only through an application process. Alvin Peter Hofkamp, 79, Beaver Creek, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at First Presbyterian Church, Beaver Creek. Burial will be at Beaver Creek Cemetery with military honors presented by Dell Hogan American Legion Post #123 and Rock County VFW Post #2757. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Hartquist Funeral Home-Engebretson Chapel in LuverneAlvin Hofkamp was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Moulton Township to Gerrit and Lena (Den Boer) Hofkamp. The family farmed on various acreages, and he received his education in Luverne. Following his education he entered the U.S. Air Force during World War II and served in northern Africa. After his discharge in 1954, he helped his brother George on his farm near Hardwick. He later moved to Jasper and was employed by the city in road construction. In 1970 he married Helen Langhout in Mitchell, S.D. They moved to Beaver Creek. Mrs. Hofkamp died in 1981. Mr. Hofkamp retired in 1996. Mr. Hofkamp was a member of the American Legion Post #123 of Luverne. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, bird watching and visiting with friends at the coffeehouse.Survivors include two grandchildren, Tabitha (Scott) Schumacher, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Shane McBreen, Waseca; two great-grandchildren, Corwin McBreen and Kayla McBreen; special friend Irene Pearson, Sioux Falls; two sisters, Elizabeth Weeda, Chandler, and Bernice (Vernon) Millis, Prairie Grove, Ark.; son-in-law Wayne Reit, Sherman, S.D.; brother-in-law, Henry Bothof, Edgerton; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his daughter, Vicki Reit; his parents, two brothers, George Hofkamp and Ed (Kay) Hofkamp; a sister, Tracie Bothof; and a brother-in-law, Richard Weeda.Hartquist Funeral Home-Engebretson Chapel, Luverne, is in charge of arrangements.
