Following are results from the 2026 Rock County Fair Open Class Competition as released to the Star Herald by open class officials. 

1942: M.W. Chunn recalls religious study

The following appeared in The Rock County Herald on July 30, 1942. 

Student, teacher, preacher, lawyer and “gentleman farmer” is M.W. Chunn of this city, who is this week’s member of the Diamond Club.

Birth announcement 

A baby boy, Ole Nicholas Aanenson, was born to Lesya and Denton Aanenson July 2, 2026, in Sioux Falls. Baby Ole weighted 9 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. 

Menu Aug. 10-14

Monday, Aug. 10: Herb-baked chicken, rice pilaf, mixed vegetables, dinner roll and chocolate pudding with whipped topping. 

Tuesday, Aug. 11: Beef hamburger on a bun, baked beans, rosemary garlic potatoes, lime gelatin with pears.

•A young worker from Pipestone is lucky to be alive after a trench he was working in collapsed around him Thursday night at a worksite in Luverne. 

Vacation Bible school offers faith-based fun

St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne and Zion Lutheran Church of Hardwick joined teamed up to offer vacation Bible school during the week of July 20 for under the theme, “Illumination Station.” 

Evelyn Reyne

Evelyn Reyne, age 90, of Luverne, Minn., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, S.D. 

Memorial service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, with gathering of family and friends beginning at 9 a.m. at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne. 

Light the Town Purple to raise money and awareness

Organizers of the September’s Suicide Awareness Month are hoping to “Light the Town Purple” as a show of community support for brain health and suicide prevention. 

Fair-ly good time!

Rock County Fair Board president Lyle Rollag said the board is getting positive feedback about the 2026 event. “We’re really pleased with how everything went,” he said.
