Evelyn Reyne, age 90, of Luverne, Minn., went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Memorial service was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, with gathering of family and friends beginning at 9 a.m. at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne.
Arrangements were under the care of Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne.

Evelyn Arloise Reyne was born to Bennard and Edna (Eide) Terhark on June 17, 1936, in Worthington, Minn. She attended country school district #92 in Nobles County for the first eight grades and then graduated from Worthington High School in 1953.
Following in her mother’s footsteps, she graduated from Mankato State College with a degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in Pipestone, Minn.
It was there that she met her future husband, Darwin Reyne, home for a visit with his family. The couple was married on May 31, 1958, at First Lutheran Church in Worthington.
They made their first home in Omaha, Neb., where she continued teaching. Later the couple moved to Minnesota where she taught at Trimont and other towns in southwest Minnesota. In 1961, the couple purchased a farm near Rushmore, Minn., where they raised their family of four children: James Brian, Shirley Jean, Barbara Joy and Paul Jonathan.
Evelyn was a former member of the Adrian Methodist Church serving on the Church Council. She was also a pianist, leader of circle and fellowship club, Sunday School teacher, and Lay member to conference. She enjoyed Extension Club, served as president of Random I and as treasurer of the Nobles County Extension Club in Worthington.
In 1997, the Reynes made the move from their farm to Carol Street in Luverne, Minn. Evelyn was a member of the Luverne Methodist Church where she served as lay reader, usher, pianist for the United Methodist Women, president of the Priscilla Circle, and member of the Scholarship Fund and Pastor Parish Committees.
Card playing was something Evelyn enjoyed and she belonged to a number of Bridge and Pinochle groups. She also belonged to the Luverne Lions and helped with their flower sales each spring. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Luverne Tourist Club, Copycat’s Extension Club and the Luverne Reader’s Theater. She also served as head election judge for Rock County.
In 2018, the couple moved to the Oak Street Association Townhomes in Luverne. More time was spent at their family cabin on Lake Benton where she loved to host her children and grandchildren.
On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Evelyn went to be with her Lord while at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the age of 90 years, one month and 11 days.
Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her husband, Darwin of 68 years; children, James (Gail) Reyne of Mitchell, South Dakota, Shirley (Douglas) Maeyaert of Minneota, Minn., Barbara (Michael) Hansen of Valley Springs, S.D., and Paul (Tracey) Reyne of Rushmore; 15 grandchildren, Kit (Samara) Reyne, Matthew (Sydney) Reyne, Elizabeth (William) Schiefen, Mark (Micaela) Maeyaert, Jonathan (Brynn) Maeyaert, Sara (Connor) Haken, Krista Maeyaert, Aaron (Kara) Hansen, Joshua (Marie) Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Tyler (Kelsie) Hansen, Zachary Hansen, Nathan (Jes) Reyne, Nicholas (Bailey) Reyne and Noah Reyne; 23 great-grandchildren, Graham, Alice, Cooper, Liam, Madison, Jase, Aiden, Kizer, Crozby, Ramzie, Eli, Lucas, Lily, Emma, Bodie, Eloise, Paxton, Hendrix, Heath, Holt, Hayes, Everett, Otto, and another great-grandson due in September; and her sister, Dorothy Binder of Chula Vista, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, David Terhark.
