When Alaska’s “Last Great Race on Earth” begins March 4, sixth-graders at Luverne Middle-High School and staff at Rock Veterinary Clinic in Luverne will be following mushers along the 1,000-mile race course.

Luverne is home to the third-largest nutcracker collection in the world, and it will soon be home to the world’s largest nutcracker — one that towers 73 feet tall and can be seen by interstate traffic from a mile away.

The Blue Mound Figure Skaters took second place out of more than 20 skating clubs competing in the Frosty Blades competition Feb. 3-5 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine. Fourth-graders perform ‘Hawaiian Beach Party’
Eighty-three Luverne Elementary fourth-graders took the stage Feb. 10 to perform “Hawaiian Beach Party” in the school’s performing arts center. Under the direction of Morgan Van Holland and Beth Capistran, the fourth-graders learned about Hawaiian culture, its dances and phrases. Their performance was “maika’I ka hana.”
