Voice of our Readers

To the editor:
The Tri-State Band Festival Committee salutes the Luverne community for the overwhelming support and participation in the 69h Annual Tri-State Band Festival.
This event would not happen without the involvement, commitment and energy of businesses, organizations and individuals in the tri-state region.
The City of Luverne and the Public Works Department assisted and coordinated the operation of the parade competition.
Superintendent Craig Oftedahl and the staff of Luverne Public Schools (particularly Todd Mann and the custodians) worked on arrangements for the field competition.
Businesses, organizations and institutions financially supported the event through button sales and advertising in the Tri-State Band Festival booklet.
Over 200 community volunteers offered their time and talents.
Minnesota National Guard, Luverne, provided safety, security and organization for the bands on the parade route.
Luverne band director James Jarvie and the Luverne High School Band hosted the 2019 competition.
The greatest accolades belong to the directors and members of the 27 competitive bands, our host band and guest band who participated in the festival.  These musicians have spent countless hours in practice to prepare for this festival, and it showed.
We're especially grateful for Dr. Terry Beckler, the directors and members of the Northern State University Marching Wolves for their exhibition in the parade and on the field.  What a great example of excellence you shared.
On a personal level, I so appreciated the Band Festival Committee and staff who have spent the entire year working with me to put together and operate this tremendous community event.   It has been an honor for me to serve as your chairperson.
Our community has a 69-year tradition in the operation of this festival.  In order to maintain that reputation, it requires the hard work and dedication of everyone.
Be proud of what this community has created.
As planning begins for next year’s event, may that sense of community and partnership be the springboard for a great 2020 Tri-State Band Festival on Saturday, Sept. 26, 70 years strong!
