John “Jack” Charles Mulligan, age 90, of Luverne, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, while at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.

A visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 5-7 p.m. at Hartquist Funeral Home with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m.  A funeral service will be on Friday, Nov. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne with burial to follow at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery.

John “Jack” Charles Mulligan was born June 1, 1933, at the family home in Cottonwood County, Minnesota, to Charles “Frank” Francis Mulligan and Esther (Snyder) Mulligan.

John joined the Air Force in 1952 and was active duty and a Korean War vet.

He retired from the Air Force in 1956. He was a vehicle mechanic for Herman Motors until he joined the Air National Guard in 1962.

While in the Air National Guard, he was a crew chief on several aircraft. He retired in 1990 and became the fire chief for the Air National Guard Fire Department, which he retired from in 1992. Once he retired, he went to work at the Blue Mounds State Park, working part time. He also worked as an independent contractor with the Minnesota DNR harvesting prairie seeds. John loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and tinkering with his tractors and antiques cars.

On February 21, 1957, he was joined in marriage to Delores Tammen in Sioux City, Iowa. They had four children.

John is survived by his children, Theresa Conner of Manchaca, Texas, Mary (Monty) Bullerman of Adrian Minnesota, Tim (Nancy) Mulligan of St. Charles, Iowa, and Chuck (Judy) Mulligan of Bellevue, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings William “Bill” (Mary Lou) Mulligan of Luverne, Minnesota, Mike Mulligan of Magnolia, Minnesota, and Rosemary (Dale) Moerke of Luverne; and sisters-in-law Elsie

(Eugene) Mulligan of Luverne and Dorothy (James) Mulligan of Warminster, Pennsylvania.

John is preceded in death by his grandson, John Charles Mulligan; his parents, Charles Francis and Esther Mulligan; brothers Bob, James, Eugene, Donald and Richard Mulligan; sister Carol Van Orden; and sisters-in-law Mary Jean and Ida Mulligan.
