Thumbs up to those of you who are keeping up with the fast-growing grass between the frequent May showers. Another thumbs up to those home and business owners who have taken the time to decorate with brightly colored flowers.
Thumbs down to those who cannot seem to find their lawnmowers … or their green thumbs.
Thumbs up to the forward-thinking congregation of the Zion Lutheran Church, the only place of worship in Hardwick. The group is concerned about the 67-year-old facility, and future plans call for a one-level church. Last week an abandoned house across the street from the church was demolished.
Thumbs up to Phase 1 of the Loop path. The project is a collaborative result of multiple citizen and government agencies working toward better community health.
Thumbs up to Ellsworth High School for offering National Honor Society membership opportunity to its student body. Three well-deserving students became its first members this year.
Thumbs down to the yellowish sticky stuff stuck onto the sides of houses and garages on the west side of Luverne. So far after several months of investigations and test there are no answers as to the cause.
Thumbs up to all city of Luverne spruce-ups. For example, 100 new boulevard trees have been planted and crosswalks have fresh paint. The Lake has big improvements (fishing pier, newly graveled parking lot and freshly seeded grass areas) and city mowers have kept everything neat and green.
Thumbs down to state legislators who once again missed their deadlines. Shame on them! They’ve had an entire session to work out their differences and it’s come down to an 11th hour stalemate on infrastructure funding that should have been at the top of the list. What if the private sector operated this way? We probably wouldn’t get paid, and neither would they.
Double thumbs down to thoughtless folks who dump garbage in recycling bins. For example, the Beaver Creek recycling shed recently was inundated by smelly household garbage and by large items (dog kennel) that are clearly not recyclable. This is an important service that could be revoked if it’s continually used for garbage.
Thumbs up to the new picture wrap over the utility box at the corner of Main Street and Highway 75 in Luverne. The pictures of our area veterans that greet drivers and pedestrians are an appropriate theme for the new flag park.
Thumbs up to those who have taken the time to pick up garbage by walking ditches between rain showers this spring. An extra big thumbs up to the Rotary project that cleaned the unadopted ditches around Luverne.
Thumbs down to those who don’t know where to put their trash. Please don’t litter.
Thumbs up dominate list except for a few obvious downers
