Cruisin' the Loop

Classic vehicle, motorcycles, tractors and side-by-sides took over the streets of Luverne Friday night for the second Luverne Cruise Night of the summer. The Loop included Highway 75, Blue Mound Avenue, Main Street and a side trip through the Veterans Home parking lot where residents lined up on the sidewalks to take in the show.

       A memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 24, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne.

       A funeral service was Wednesday, July 22, at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley, Iowa. Burial with military rites followed at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley.

       A memorial service was Monday, July 13, at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen. Burial followed at Eastside Cemetery in Steen.

Redbirds earn top seed

The Luverne Redbirds ended the regular season on top of the Gopher League and earned the No. 1 seed in the first round of the First Nite/Gopher League playoffs.

Luverne (Gopher) and Fairmont (First Nite), respective champions of their leagues, each received a bye for the first round.

Redbirds defeat Pipestone, lose to Sioux Falls Brewers

The Luverne amateur baseball team went 1-1 during two home games this week.

The Redbirds lost to the Sioux Falls Brewers 6-2 Friday night before defeating the Pipestone A’s 16-8 Sunday afternoon.

The  12-2 Redbirds won the Gopher League and earned the top seed and a bye for the first round of the First Nite/Gopher League playoff tournament this week.
