Three students selected to All-State Speech Team

Three area students are members of the 2020 MSCA All-State Team for achieving a series of milestones established by the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association (MSCA) by their senior year.

Nicole Hoogland and Alexa Chesley from Luverne High School and Maritza Beltran from Adrian High School are among the 117 speech competitors from 38 high schools who earned the award.

Luverne Rotary essay winner earns third place at districts

Anna Banck, who was chosen as the Luverne Rotary Club Four-Way Test essay winner earlier this year, earned third place in the District 5610 essay contest.

•Three Rock County families own farms that have been passed down for at least 100 years.

Of the more than 200 Century Farms honored this year, two are in Jasper and one in Luverne.

Kevin and Kim Hunstad as well as Ryan and Patty Hunstad were recognized from Jasper, and from Luverne was the Arthur G. Hansen farm.

       Mona Van Malsen was born on April 30, 1924, to Otto and Minnie (Teunissen) Van Malsen. She grew up on a farm near Steen.

       In accordance with the Minnesota Department of Health and CDC guidelines, a private family service will be held Friday, May 22, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Living Rock Church in Luverne.

Dennis Johnson, 75, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, died Sunday, April 19, 2020, at his home.

       There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Dennis Johnson was born to Harold and Eleanore (Christensen) Johnson on March 17, 1945, in Viborg, South Dakota, in Turner County.

David Hansen, 76, Luverne, died peacefully on Friday, May 8, 2020, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage.

       In accordance with the Minnesota Department of Health and CDC guidelines, a private family graveside service took place at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Luverne.
