After waiting three months to play baseball due to pandemic restrictions, four Luverne athletes played all the baseball they could want last week. They competed in eight games in five days, including three on July 17, as members of both the Luverne 19U and the Redbirds teams. Pictured are (from left) Ethan Beyer, Cade Wenninger, Isaiah Bartels and Colby Crabtree. Quinn Buss also plays on both teams.

Playing double duty

“It’s better to play three games in one day than no baseball at all.”

That’s how Luverne’s Cade Wenninger summed up playing three baseball games on two teams in one day Friday, July 17, after the high school baseball season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Luverne’s Casey Sehr had three hits and scored three runs during his 19U team’s 11-0 victory over Adrian July 21 at Redbird Field.

Luverne 19U defeat Adrian

The Luverne 19-and-under (19U) baseball team had a slow week with just one game, an 11-0 victory over Adrian at Redbird Field July 19.

Luverne hosted Jackson July 28 and will play two home games against RTR tonight (July 30) at Redbird Field before playing at Heron Lake-Okabena Monday.

Evan Schettler of Adrian will try to repeat his first-place finish from 2019 during the 2020 Rock County Fair Enduro Race Saturday night in Luverne. The 33rd annual Fair Enduro Race is the only grandstand event this year. Pictured from 2019 are Toni Schettler, Michael Schettler, Evan Schettler and race promoter Justin Kemp.

Enduro race is only grandstand event

The 33rd annual Rock County Fair Enduro Race is still a go for Saturday night.

With the 2020 Rock County Fair officially canceled due to pandemic concerns, no other grandstand events will take place this year.

The Fair Enduro will limit the number of people allowed in the stands and the pits (250 each), but otherwise the race should go on as normal, according to organizers.
