    The Luverne boys’ hockey team played in the Rochester Kiwanis Hockey Festival Dec. 27-29 at the Graham Arena Complex in Rochester. Luverne played in the Varsity Blue division with five other teams that included Albert Lea, Austin, LaCrescent, Rochester and Windom.     The Luverne girls’ hockey team traveled to Blaine Dec. 26-28 to play in the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic at the National Sports Center Super Rink over the holiday break.     The Luverne boys’ hockey team started the season with three wins in the past week. The Cardinals beat Marshall 2-1 at home Nov. 28, punished Redwood Valley 18-1 on the road Nov. 30, and beat Waseca 2-1 at home Dec. 1. LHS will face New Ulm Friday, Dec. 8, at home.     It’s been a couple of weeks since the youngest Peterson grandson took the ice for his first mini-mite tournament. Tournament maybe isn’t the right word because they didn’t keep score; there was no goalie in the net because there was no net. Come to find out that for the mini-mites instead of nets they use a wooden box with holes at each end that the kids try and shoot the puck into for a goal.…
