Plans call for the area near the Blue Mound Ice Arena that’s currently used for outdoor ice to be laid with concrete for outdoor ice in the winter and six pickleball courts in the spring, summer and fall. As part of the estimated $1.3 million project, a roof structure something like this one pictured will be built over it to keep the ice protected from the sun in the winter and provide shade for pickleball in the summer.

Outdoor ice rink may become all-season facility

The outdoor skating area at the Blue Mound Ice Arena will become an all-seasons recreation area if grants and private funding come through.
