Summer is well under way, and the busyness is enough to make anyone’s head spin. Whether you have kids or grandkids to chase around, are busy with seasonal work responsibilities, or just trying to keep up with making the most of summer’s long, hot days while they are here, I bet that time is getting away from you as it is from me!
I had big plans — I was going to run every morning, or at least three mornings a week. Morning, of course, because it is a bit cooler than the rest of the day. I was also going to spend the afternoons with the kids at the pool when I wasn’t working. I was going to ride bike everywhere, because why not? My “Ima Gonna” list was as long as my arm, whimsically spread before me like an endless summer day.
However, summer days do end. They don’t usually end abruptly, of course. They meander their way into fall. We notice the progress of the crops in the field but often fail to relate the progress and nature’s bounty with the farewell of a summer we hoped would last forever.
Currently, I’m canning nature’s bounty and walking the dog for my exercise. So, the exercise does happen. The kids have had more time in the yard with the sprinkler (placed under the trampoline — you should try it!) than at the pool. However, the vigor of my exercise and the plans of the summer have left me feeling a bit less productive than I’d like.
All is not lost. Maybe you have reached all or most of your goals this summer for exercise, diet, or both. Maybe you are busy defeating yourself for that which you wish you had gotten done already. However, while the long days of summer still loom before us, know that autumn is also a great time to enjoy the outdoors for the exercise you had planned for summer. There is still plenty of time to start, and to continue.
Just remember, Ima Gonna never got nuttin’ done. Before summer goes completely, get that summer “to do” list knocked out!
