The city of Beaver Creek will host its first-ever community celebration Aug. 4-5.

“Beaver Days” will include a 5K run/walk, parade, vendor fair, car show, community meal, street dance and more.

“We have been talking about doing something for a while now between city officials and members of the fire department,” said Beaver Creek Mayor Josh Teune.

“We have always said that if other towns have city celebrations, then why can’t Beaver Creek have one?”

According to Mayor Teune, a Beaver Days committee was formed that was open to community members to join.

“Each person brought to the group what they would like to see in our town celebration, and we put together what we could and couldn’t get done,” Teune said.

“We also joined with HBCS — Helping Build Communities Stronger. They were great help financially and with their experience running Hills Friendship Days.”

Teune said coming up with both the name and dates for the first-ever celebration were the first orders of business for the committee.

“Some of the names that didn’t quite make the cut were Dam Days, Railroad Days and Creek Days,” he said.

“And we decided that most of the town celebrations were early summer, so we decided to go a little later in the summer, trying to find a date that wasn’t taken. We know it won’t work for everyone, but we did our best.”

The weekend will begin with a Friday night border league softball doubleheader at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4.

Most of the events will be staged on Saturday, Aug. 5.

The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Elementary School and the parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on Main Street.

“The parade will be just jump in line and drive through, pretty much whatever you would like to drive through,” Teune said. “We hope to get a bunch of people to throw out candy to kids as well.”

A vendor fair, car show, and family fun fest will follow the parade through the afternoon. A community meal will begin at 4:30 p.m. with freewill donations benefiting the Beaver Creek Fire Department.

According to organizers, a highlight of the celebration will be the Saturday night street dance. The dance will feature John King, an up-and-coming singer from Nashville, Tennessee. Gates open at 7 p.m. and cost of admission is $10.

“If you have a chance, check out some of his songs on YouTube. They are very good,” Teune said. “He is mostly a country music singer but will do other types of covers.”

Teune said the community is excited to welcome visitors to its first celebration.

“We would like for people to leave and say, ‘You know, that was pretty fun,’ or ‘We should plan on doing that next year.’ That would be the greatest compliment we could receive,” he said.

“The goal for the first time was to start small and see how things go. We have ended up with a pretty complete slate of Beaver Days activities that we think all ages will enjoy.”
