    Luverne wrestler Matthew Gangestad, a junior, placed second in the 2024 Ninth Grade State Tournament Saturday, Feb. 3, in Champlin Park.     The Cardinals and Patriots met in Hills Monday, Feb. 5, with Luverne taking the game 63-59. It was a back-and-forth physical game that came down to the last few minutes of play to decide the winner. In the end, Luverne was able to hit a couple free throws to put the game out of reach for H-BC. Game stats were not available for this week’s  Star-Herald printing on Tuesday.

    The Cardinals sent nine wrestlers to compete in the Big South Tournament at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall Friday, Feb. 2. The tournament included all 13 schools in the Big South Conference.
