Meetings
The Town and Country Garden Club will host a fall cleanup at the healing garden at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27. Anyone interested in helping is welcome. Bring garden tools.
Narcotics Anonymous will meet every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Steen Reformed Church. Contact Robert for more information 507-329-2642.
Women’s Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays in the United Methodist Church.

See Olympic gymnast champions Oct. 8
Luverne Community Education is offering a bus trip to see the Olympic gymnastics stars on Oct. 8 at the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastic Champions in Omaha. The seats at the event are just behind the VIP section. Register by Sept. 22 by calling 283-4724. Fee is $170 for ticket and bus.
 
Veterans Home plans Scarecrow Festival
The Veterans Home is planning its 10th annual Fall Festival. Organizations are encouraged to join in the fun and put up their own scarecrow creations. There is no specific theme this year.
The home also invites the public to join them Saturday, Oct. 15 (note change of date), from 10-11:15 a.m. for carnival games and great prizes. Scarecrow displays will be judged that day, so come and vote for your favorites.
 
Free books at Library
Books remaining from the Friends of the Library Book Sale will be free during business hours from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1 at the Rock County Library.
 
Night hike in state park Sept. 24
A Blue Mounds State Park night hike will start at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the shelterhouse by the walk-in campsites. During the leisurely walk, hikers will experience nocturnal animals, constellations, a Native American tipi and bonfire with marshmallows. Call Jeanne, 283-4796, with questions.
 
Grief Support Group begins Sept. 26
Sanford Luverne Hospice will offer a Grief Support Group for five weeks from 5-6:30 p.m. beginning Monday, Sept. 26, in the Blue Mound Room of Sanford Luverne Medical Center. Meetings are free and open to anyone grieving the death of a loved one. Register by calling Sanford Luverne Hospice at 283-1805.
 
Blood donation at Grace Sept. 26
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Luverne from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Grace Lutheran Church on North Highway 75.
To make an appointment, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767. Donors are encouraged to make appointments and complete the RapidPass online health history questionnaire at redcrossblood.org/rapidpass to help reduce wait times.
 
Open house for city comprehensive plan Sept. 26
The city of Luverne will host a public open house from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in Grand Prairie Events Center (105 S. Estey) to gather input on issues to be considered in the city’s comprehensive plan for future development. Kids Against Hunger event Sept. 29 and 30
Kids Against Hunger will be packing meals in the Luverne High School gym on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 29 and 30. Volunteers and monetary donations are needed. The goal is to improve on last year’s donations of $26,008 and 135,000 packaged meals.

Master Gardeners wanted
Do you enjoy gardening or landscaping?  Would you like to learn more about growing healthy plants that work well in our area?   Do you want to share your knowledge with others?  Rock County is seeking people who would consider becoming master gardeners. Register by Oct. 1 at the Rock County Extension Office, 283-1302. Online class begins in January.  Scholarship assistance may be available.
 
Shredding fundraiser scheduled for Oct. 1
St. Catherine’s Carmelites and Dakota Shred It will sponsor the sixth annual shredding fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Laundry Room parking lot on the corner of Highway 75 and Main Street, Luverne. Cost is a freewill offering. No need to remove paperclips or staples.
 
Todd Oliver and Friends Oct. 2
Todd Oliver and Friends, as seen on “America’s Got Talent,” will perform at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 2. At 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Palace Theatre Box Office and cost $25 for adults and $15 for students. Call 507-283-4339 for reservations.
 
Hospice Tour of Tables brunch set for Oct. 8
Sanford Luverne Hospice will host its annual Tour of Tables Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Blue Mound Banquet Center in Luverne. The event begins at 9 a.m. to tour the tables and bid on a basket auction, and brunch will be served at 10:30 a.m. To participate with decorating a table or donating a gift basket, or to purchase a ticket, contact the hospice office at 283-1805. Deadline is Sept. 23. Proceeds will be used to replace carpeting at The Cottage.
 
One Warm Coat Project collects coats to Oct. 31
The Rock County “One Warm Coat Project” is now collecting clean, reusable coats and snow gear. Children’s coats are especially needed.
Bring items to ATLAS for Life, 201 E. Main Street, Luverne, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Oct. 31. Coats may also be brought to Luverne Elementary School during October. Call 283-9664 with questions.
