Meetings
MS Support Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Southwest Health and Human Services, Luverne. All persons with MS, family and friends are invited. For information call 283-2069 or 283-2964.
Luverne Area MOMS meet monthly during the school year on the second Wednesday morning of each month. Mothers of young children interested in meeting with other moms are invited. Registration is required. For more information, contact Wanda Jarchow, 507-283-9664.

Mound Township Board meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday each month at the Rock County Highway Building, Luverne.
 
Veterans Home plans Scarecrow Festival
The Veterans Home is planning its 10th annual Fall Festival. Organizations are encouraged to join in the fun and put up their own scarecrow creations. There is no specific theme this year.
The home also invites the public to join them Saturday, Oct. 15 (note change of date), from 10-11:15 a.m. for carnival games and great prizes. Scarecrow displays will be judged that day, so come and vote for your favorites.
 
Friends of the Library book sale set for Sept. 15-17
Donations of books may be made until Monday, Sept. 12, for the Friends of the Library book sale. The sale runs from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Books cost $2 per bag. Friends of the Library can shop early from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. All books will be free during business hours from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1.
 
Free Food Ministry set for Sept. 15
The monthly Food Ministry, sponsored by New Life Celebration Church, will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Luverne Senior Center. If you’re having trouble putting food on the table, come for fresh produce, bread and meat. Children will be asked to wait outside.
 
Empty pesticide container collection
Rock County Land Management will offer a collection of empty pesticide containers from 10:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 19, at Ketterling Services on South Cedar Avenue, Luverne. It’s for farmers, commercial applicators, golf courses and government agencies. Containers must be No. 2 plastic, triple rinsed and dry with labels removed (as well as possible). Aerosol and glass are not accepted. Call 283-8862 ext. 4 with questions.
 
Prairie hike at Touch the Sky Sept. 17
A two-mile hike at Touch the Sky Prairie northwest of Luverne will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, starting at the far western parking lot. Observe prairie grasses and wildflowers and learn about prairie ecology. Call Jeanne, 283-4796, with questions.
 
Blue Mound Lutheran Fall Festival Sept. 18
The Blue Mound Lutheran Church, rural Luverne, Fall Festival will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. Pastor Gary Anderson will be the guest speaker and a catered meal will follow the service. All are welcome.
 
Optimist Club Kids’ Fishing Derby Sept. 18
The Luverne Optimist Club will sponsor a free kids’ fishing derby from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, for ages 5-15 at the Luverne Veterans Pond. Participants need to bring a fishing pole and tackle or call ahead to reserve a pole.
Complimentary hot dogs and beverages will be served after the derby along with prizes and drawings. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Area blood donation opportunities
•The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Luverne from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Grace Lutheran Church on North Highway 75. To make an appointment, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767. Donors are encouraged to make appointments and complete the RapidPass online health history questionnaire at redcrossblood.org/rapidpass to help reduce wait times.
•The Community Blood Bank will be in Adrian from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Ambulance Garage and Fire Station. Drink plenty of fluids.  Bring an ID.  Walk-ins are welcome.
 
Night hike in state park Sept. 24
A Blue Mounds State Park night hike will start at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the shelterhouse by the walk-in campsites. During the leisurely walk, hikers will experience nocturnal animals, constellations, a Native American tipi and bonfire will marshmallows. Call Jeanne, 283-4796, with questions.
 
Open house for city comprehensive plan Sept. 26
The city of Luverne will host a public open house from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in Grand Prairie Events Center (105 S. Estey) to gather input on issues to be considered in the city’s comprehensive plan for future development. Hospice Tour of Tables brunch set for Oct. 8
Sanford Luverne Hospice will host its annual Tour of Tables Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Blue Mound Banquet Center in Luverne. The event begins at 9 a.m. to tour the tables and bid on a basket auction, and brunch will be served at 10:30 a.m. To participate with decorating a table or donating a gift basket, or to purchase a ticket, contact the hospice office at 283-1805. Deadline is Sept. 23.
 
Shredding fundraiser scheduled for Oct. 1
St. Catherine’s Carmelites and Dakota Shred It will sponsor the sixth annual shredding fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Laundry Room parking lot on the corner of Highway 75 and Main Street, Luverne. Cost is a freewill offering. No need to remove paperclips or staples.
 
One Warm Coat Project collects coats to Oct. 31
The Rock County “One Warm Coat Project” is now collecting clean, reusable coats and snow gear. Children’s coats are especially needed.
Bring items to ATLAS for Life, 201 E. Main Street, Luverne, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday until Oct. 31. Coats may also be brought to Luverne Elementary School during October. Call 283-9664 with questions.
 
Museum closed for move to History Center
The Rock County Museum on North Freeman Avenue is now closed in order to move displays to the new History Center opening this fall in downtown Luverne. The Rock County Historical Society can still be reached at 283-2122 and at rcmuseum@gmail.com.
