Meetings
MS Support Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at the Luverne Pizza Ranch. All persons with MS, family and friends are invited. Call 283-2069 or 283-2964 with questions.
Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at St. John Lutheran Church.
Beaver Creek Cemetery Association will meet at the First Presbyterian Church in Beaver Creek for their annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20.
Lady Luverne Red Hats meetings are canceled until further notice due to health issues of members.
Hardwick Goal Seekers meet every Monday in Hardwick City Hall for the purpose of support and encouragement for weight loss journeys. Weigh-in begins at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Call Glenda, 449-0568, with questions.
Women’s Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays in the United Methodist Church.

Highway 23  road project extended to June 22
The lane closure on Highway 23 just outside Jasper’s northern city limits has been extended through June 22. Motorists can anticipate short delays when flagging operations are present. The lane closure occurs when the railroad receives shipments to repair a bridge at the site and requires space to unload materials onto the shoulder.
 
Two opportunities for children’s theater
•A “Magical Musical Play” offered at Luverne Street Music the week of June 17 needs student actors grades K-4 (as attended during the past school year) to help save the crops in this fun country-style garden hoedown!  Fee is $40.
•Missoula Children’s Theatre returns to Luverne the week of July 8. Spots are open for actors who attended kindergarten (past school year) through age 7 to perform Hans Christian Anderson’s classic tale, “Snow Queen.” Fee is $35 if registered prior to June 15 at Community Education.
 
Community Blood Bank in Adrian June 17
The Community Blood Bank will host the All-American donor drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 17, in the Adrian EMS Hall. Donors will receive a free T-shirt and free lunch from Subway. Call 507-483-2668 or log on to cbblifeblood.org. Walk-ins are welcome.
 
Enjoy brown bag lunch with music June 18
Bring your own lunch, maybe a chair, to the plaza at Main and McKenzie (History Center parking area) and enjoy the Brown Bag Concert with music by Ron and Jane Cote from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 18.
 
Free food giveaway June 20
New Life Celebration Church will offer free produce, bread and meat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at the Generations building at 319 East Lincoln Street in Luverne for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags and boxes. Call 507-283-3466.
 
Summer theater camp for youth starts June 24
Area youth, grades 6-9, are invited to participate in a 7-week summer theater arts camp beginning June 24 and will meet from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Quartziter Community Center in Jasper. Participants will learn about theater through the “Lion King” experience. Performances are set for Aug. 11, 12, and 13 at Hiawatha Pageant Park in Pipestone.  Master Gardeners Tour set for June 25
Join the Rock County Master Gardeners on their annual Garden Tour on June 25.  Fee is $10 prepaid by June 19 or $15 after that. 
 
Register for VBS at Bethlehem
Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Hills will offer a free Vacation Bible School program titled “To Mars and Beyond” from Sunday, July 7, through Thurdsay, July 11, for children ages 3 through eighth grade. Classes will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with supper served every night.

Free Medicare classes
Free classes for people who are new to Medicare are offered the second and third Mondays every month at the Minnesota River Area on Aging, 1939 Engebretson Ave., Slayton.
In the first class, participants will learn basics of Medicare and their options. The second class teaches how to research these options using non-biased tools, such as the Medicare website and Medicare Plan Finder Tool.

 “Crit Happens” at Coffey Contemporary Arts is for all practicing artists, ages 17 and older, to bring a completed work to be critiqued at the professional level with the large group.  Free of charge, but requires registration--call 283-4724. Meet at 7 p.m. on June 14, July 12, July 26, Aug. 9, Aug. 23
Take your skills further at Google 102 on June 20 when you learn tips and tricks for getting more out of your google account. Fee is $5.  Brought to you in part by Blandin Broadband Community grant.
Hands-on Fun Project Day is for students who attended grades 3-7 during the 18-19 school year.  Students will choose three activities and may even complete a project that could be entered into the county fair.  Fee is $15 for this four-hour class on June 17.
Create a one-of-a-kind project at Chalk Couture on June 17.  Fee is $35.  Open to grade 7 through adult.
Nature Impressions participants (ages 3 to grade 3 and older as attended during 18-19 school year) will take a nature walk with Poplar Creek residents to gather items and then create beautiful impressions in clay on June 18.  Fee is $17.
Reclaimed Wood Art participants (grades 2 and older as attended during 18-19 school year), bring a short verse on June 20 to use on your wood to create a unique piece for home.  Fee is $18. 
Join the Rock County Master Gardeners on their annual Garden Tour on June 25.  Fee is $10 prepaid by June 17 or $15 after that. 
Tick Tack Toe participants (grades 2 and older as attended during 18-19 school year) will make their own game and then have fun playing the game with Poplar Creek residents on June 25 & 27.  Fee is $25.
