Hospice Tree Lighting Dec. 5
The public is invited to the Hospice Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the corner of Hwy. 75 and Main Street in Luverne. A short program will include the reading of names remembered with lights, and cider and cookies will be served. Call 507-283-1805 with questions.
 
Bell ringers wanted for Red Kettle
The Salvation Army 2019 Red Kettle Campaign continues through Tuesday Dec. 24, and bell ringers are needed for the fundraising event. Two-hour shifts are available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Food shelf announces holiday schedule
Holiday hours at the Rock County Emergency Food Shelf are from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 5 and 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, and from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26. The Food Shelf is located in the lower level of the United Methodist Church, Luverne.
 
SHARE distribution Dec. 11
The Rock County SHARE distribution will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Luverne National Guard Armory at 309 S. Freeman Avenue. For more information contact Molly at 507-227-9282.
 
Walleye Wind meeting Dec. 5 in Beaver Creek
Walleye Wind of NextEra Energy will host an open house and information meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in SpringBrooke Events, Beaver Creek. It’s open to area residents and anyone interested in the proposed wind generation facility in Rock County.
 
Luverne choir concert Dec. 12
Luverne choir concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the high school gym. It will feature middle school and high school choirs and will conclude with a joint performance of “O Holy Night.” Admission is a monetary donation to the Luverne School Angel Fund, which helps students and families with outstanding lunch accounts.
 
H-BC High School concert Dec. 16
Hills-Beaver Creek sixth- through twelfth-grade band and choir students will present a holiday concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the high school gymnasium in Hills.
 
Red Cross announces area blood drives
The American Red Cross has scheduled two blood drives in December in the area.
•The Luverne blood drive is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Luverne High School.
•The Jasper blood drive is from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at 101 Spicer Street in Jasper.
 Donors are reminded to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification. Go to RedCrossBlood.org or call 800-733-2767 for more information.
 
Free food Dec. 19
New Life Celebration Church will offer free food from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Generations building at 319  East Lincoln Street for those who are having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags or boxes. Call 507-283-4366.

Ozobots Unleashed on Dec. 9 is for students in grades 4 and 5 to learn design code using little toy robots.  Fee is $11.
Participants grade 5 through adult will get a basic intro at Hand Building Clay Class on Dec. 12 and 13.  Fee is $25, plus $5 material fee paid to instructor.
