Gary Heikes, age 76, of Starbuck, formerly of Montevideo, died of natural causes unexpectedly at home on Oct. 13, 2025. A memorial service celebrating Gary will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Pastor Jeff Fitzkappes officiating. Luverne places fourth out of 12 speech teams

A strong showing by the Luverne High School speech team at the Montevideo Thunder Hawk Speech Invitational was displayed Saturday. The Luverne High School speech team traveled toMontevideo Saturday, where six students earned medals. As a team, the school placed sixth in the small group category.
