Luverne girls display balanced attack during win over Pipestone Area

The Luverne Cardinals girls’ basketball team went 1-1 this week to bring their overall record to 4-5.
The Cardinals opened the week with a 68-59 road victory against Pipestone Area on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
On Friday, Feb. 13, the Cardinals dropped a close Big South Conference contest to Windom 57-52.
 
LHS 68, Pipestone 59
The Cardinals used a balanced attack to trip up the Arrows in Pipestone on Tuesday, Feb. 9.
With five players reaching double figures, the Cardinals defeated the Arrows 68-59.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 15-5 lead and never looked back. At the half the Cardinals held a 36-32 lead.
In the second half the Cardinals outscored the Arrows 32-29 to pick up the 68-59 road victory.
Averill Sehr scored 16 points to lead the way for the Cardinals. Sehr dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Kira John scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Elizabeth Wagner scored 11 points, dished out six assists and grabbed five rebounds.
Elise Ferrell scored 11 points and dished out five assists.
Christina Wagner scored 11 points.
 
Windom 57, LHS 52
The Cardinals battled Windom on Friday, Feb. 13, but ultimately fell to the Eagles 57-52.
The Eagles outscored the Cardinals 35-31 in the first half. In the second half neither Big South foe could separate themselves, with the Eagles outscoring the Cardinals 22-21 to hold on for the five-point victory.
Christina Wagner led the Cardinals with 14 points. Wagner also grabbed six rebounds.
Elizabeth Wagner recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Sehr chipped in with 12 points.
The Cardinals will look to get back to .500 on Friday, Feb. 19, when they hit the road to take on Worthington.
