Luverne hosted a Quadrangular Tuesday, Jan. 31, winning two matches and losing one.
The Cardinals beat Beresford, South Dakota, 45-30, and Garretson, South Dakota, 54-27. They lost to Elk Point, South Dakota, 41-28.
The Cardinals were scheduled to travel to Viborg, South Dakota, Tuesday, Feb. 7, and will host a Triangular Thursday, Feb. 9. They will then travel for another Triangular Friday, Feb. 10.
Luverne’s wrestling team is 7-11 for the season. The sectional team tournament is set for Thursday, Feb. 16, at a location yet to be determined.
Boys’ varsity Individual Sectional Tournament will be Saturday, Feb. 25, at Jackson County Central High School.
Girls’ varsity Individual Sectional Tournament will be Saturday, Feb. 11, at Hastings High School.
Luverne Quadrangular
Luverne hosted a Quadrangular in the Cardinal Classic Gym Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Teams participating were Beresford/Alcester-Hudson, Elk Point-Jefferson, and Garretson, all South Dakota schools.
Luverne wrestled three duals in the Quad. The Cardinals beat Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 45-30, lost to Elk Point-Jefferson 41-28, and won against Garretson 54-27.
“I think we had some of our best wrestling Tuesday night since the first of the year,” head coach Jordan Kopp said.
“Being in front of the home crowd with a great turnout really got the kids going.”

Luverne was able to beat Beresford, winning eight of the 14 matches. Five wins were by pins, two came from Beresford forfeits and one by decision.
