The Luverne boys’ tennis team suffered three consecutive setbacks to end the regular season before securing a solid victory in the quarterfinals of the section team tournament during a busy week.
The Cardinals lost a close contest to St. Peter 4-3 on Wednesday, May 18, in the Big South Conference championship meet.
On Saturday, May 21, Luverne went 0-2 at a tournament in St. James.
“We used these meets to try out a few different lineups and changes before our section tournament this week,” said LHS head coach Lucas Larson.
“That being said, the day should have gone better for us,” Larson said on Saturday.
“We need to put these meets behind us and look forward to section play this week. If we take care of our business, then all will be well.”
The Cardinals did just that when they opened section play with a decisive 7-0 victory over MACCRAY Monday afternoon in Luverne.
LHS traveled to Redwood Falls for the team section semi-final and championship meets on Tuesday after this edition of the Star Herald went to press.
Section individual tournament play is scheduled to begin today (Thursday) in Redwood Falls.
