The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots football team continued their push for a perfect season on Friday, Oct. 30, with a 36-0 victory over Edgerton. The top-ranked Patriots improved to 4-0 with the road victory.
After forcing the Flying Dutchmen to punt on their opening drive, it didn’t take long for the Patriots to get on the scoreboard. On the first offensive play for the Patriots, Gavin Wysong scored on a 78-yard rushing touchdown to put H-BC up 6-0 early in the first quarter.
That was the score early in the second quarter before the Patriots found pay-dirt again. This time it was Tyson Bork scoring on an 11-yard rushing touchdown to put the Patriots up 12-0.
Late in the third quarter, Bork scored his second rushing touchdown of the game. This time it was a 50-yard rushing touchdown for the senior tailback. Wysong converted the two-point conversion to put the Patriots up 20-0 with 3:37 left in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, Wysong crossed the goal line again. The senior quarterback scored on a seven-yard rushing touchdown. Wysong hooked up with Zander Wysong on the two-point conversion to put the Patriots up 28-0.
Wysong and Bork closed out the scoring when they connected on a 30-yard touchdown pass. Cole Baker converted the two-point conversion to put the Patriots up 36-0.
Wysong rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns. He also passed for 69 yards and one touchdown.
Bork finished the game with 121 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. He added 30 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
It wasn’t the cleanest of games for H-BC offensively. H-BC head coach Rex Metzger said his team made enough plays to come out on the winning end.
“Offensively we didn’t get in much of a rhythm, but we give credit to them,” Metzger said.
“They were able to take some things away from us. We were able to make a few big plays and make them play from behind, which is key to beating Edgerton.”
Tory Knobloch led the team with nine tackles. Chase Bosch recorded seven tackles.
Donovan Leenderts tallied six tackles and one sack. Gavin Wysong recorded six tackles. Bork finished with five tackles.
Casey Kueter recorded four tackles and one sack. Zander Wysong recorded four tackles.
In four games this season the Patriots have given up just 14 points. The team’s 36-0 victory over Edgerton marked the second time this season that they kept the opposing team off the scoreboard.
“Edgerton is a physical ground and pound team,” Metzger said. “We talked all week about getting them in third and long. We were able to do that most of the night. They are a senior-oriented group with a lot of size and experience. They are a much better team than their record shows.”
