COVID-19 has now impacted three Minnesota State High School League seasons since it reared its ugly head in March.
It put a premature end to winter sports while teams were preparing or already playing in their respective state tournaments.
Due to COVID-19 there were no spring sports in the state of Minnesota.
This fall the pandemic delayed the start of fall sports after they were originally going to be played in the spring of 2021. The MSHSL decided to bring back a shortened fall sports season.
That shortened season was disrupted when Gov. Tim Walz rolled out his latest restrictions on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The latest restrictions put a four-week pause on all youth sports in the state of Minnesota.
The Emergency Order 20-99 from Gov. Tim Walz puts a four-week “dial back” on youth sports to slow the spread of COVID-19.
The order went into effect at midnight on Friday, Nov. 20. It impacts all indoor and outdoor sporting events.
The order is in effect through Dec. 18 after midnight.
When the order was announced, football teams scrambled to get one more game in before it went into effect.
Luverne and Hills-Beaver Creek were both scheduled to play their first section tournament game on Saturday, Nov. 21. They both were able to schedule “Section Championship” games on Friday before the order went into effect at 11:59 p.m.
