The Luverne boys’ tennis team faced a tough challenge in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament Tuesday morning in Minneapolis.
The Cardinals fell 7-0 to St. Paul Academy/Summit School, the top-ranked team in Class A.
Although LHS did not win a match, the No. 2 singles match was extremely competitive.
Luverne’s Griffen Jarchow and SPA’s Harry Mahmic required a tie-breaker set, which Jarchow lost 13-11.
With the loss, the Luverne team moved to the consolation bracket to face Minnewaska Area/Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, who lost 4-3 to Rock Ridge in the quarterfinals.
The consolation matchup took place Tuesday afternoon, after this edition of the Star Herald went to press.
A full summary of state tournament results will be published in next week’s Star Herald.
