VFW baseball opens with victory

The Luverne VFW baseball team opened its 2015 season with a 10-9 victory against Marshall Orange in Luverne Monday.
Four pitchers took the mound for Luverne in a game that produced plenty of offense.
Trey Roberts pitched three innings and gave up one run. Declan Beers followed him and yielded three runs while on the mound.
Jesse Reed and Jaxon Nelson each gave up two runs while pitching for the Cardinals.
Reed led the offense for Luverne going three for four at the plate, including a triple, scoring two runs and batting in five runs for the home team.
Nick Harder was two for three in the contest with three runs. Nelson also scored three runs.
The Luverne VFW team will host Pipestone tonight before hosting its annual eight team tournament this weekend in conjunction with Luverne’s Buffalo Days celebration.
