10 years ago (2005)
•Acting on a recommendation from the City Administrator Search Committee, the Luverne City Council is contacting John Call, Spirit Lake, Iowa, to ask him to be the next city administrator.
 
20 years ago (1995)
•The Luverne City Council unanimously agreed to help local ice lovers apply for state funds to upgrade the Blue Mound Ice Arena.
Hockey Association Board member Connie Connell requested $20,000 from the Council Monday, as part of the effort to raise money for additional insulation, new boards and Plexiglas around the rink. The council approved spending up to $20,000 toward the grant.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•A total of $830 in cash was stolen sometime last Thursday morning at the Magnolia Bar and Steak House.
The money had been placed in a hiding place after the place closed. The loss was discovered the next morning.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•An energetic robber, who chose the hard way of breaking a hole in the roof rather than obliviously easier methods of gaining access, broke into Nelson Department store sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning, and made away with approximately $50 in cash and between $75 and $100 in jewelry.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•The first killing frost of the season settled over this section at an early hour Tuesday morning, doing more or less damage to corn and garden truck. In some sections, especially along the river bottom and in the low lands the frost was quite heavy, while in other sections it is claimed the frost was so light as to be a benefit instead of an injury.
