Remember When Sept. 15, 2016

•Earth-moving equipment has had a big presence along Highway 75 this week as the dirt work is in progress on the former Fledgling Field for a new Dingmann Funeral Home. According to Dingmann, construction is scheduled to be complete by the end of this year. Plans call for the building to be 7,130 square feet, surrounded by 45 percent green space. There will be 41 parking spaces, two of which will be marked for handicapped. The current Dingmann Funeral Home on West Main Street was built as a residence in 1902 and converted to a funeral home in 1921.

•Buffalo Ridge Railroad (BRR) is gearing up for harvest. Company president Larry Woods said, “Right now we are extremely busy moving grain out of storage to get the elevators empty to handle the new crop.”
“The forecast looks good this year,” Woods said. Last year BRR shipped between 2,600 and 2,700 carloads. This year Woods estimates 3,000 or more cars will be shipped.

•Over 200 men, women and children gave a right hand of greeting Sunday to Miss Dominique Cheutin at the open house held in her honor.
The blithe, 18-year-old girl from Gisors, France, is the foreign exchange student of the 1996-67 school year at Luverne high school.
A lot more shy and retiring than her American “opposite numbers,” Dominique hasn’t yet found it an automatic gesture to shake hands with people older than she is.

•The seriousness of the reported class between the America destroyer, Greer, and a German U-boat is not yet clear insofar as the position of the Washington Administration is concerned. And, apparently, the concern of the Administration is about the only concern felt in this country. Neither Congress nor the American people seem to be much stirred up about the incident.

•Rock county’s seventh annual fair will open next Wednesday morning for a three days’ exhibit, and according to present expectations it will be by far the most creditable event of its kind ever held in the county.
This conclusion is based upon the greatly increased facilities and accommodations that will be available this year at the fair grounds, the high character and great number of entertainment features that have been contracted for and the more general interest that the people of Rock county are showing in the coming event, both as exhibitors and expected attendants.
The fair society has this fall made the most important addition to its facilities of any year in its history, by the erection of two substantial buildings, both of which will be entirely completed by tomorrow night.
