•The Rock County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a string of mailbox vandalisms in the Kenneth, Luverne and Magnolia areas.
Damage reports came in from Wednesday, Sept. 16, to Friday, Sept. 18, and during those three days, 16 mailboxes were vandalized.
On Wednesday, Sept. 16, seven mailboxes were vandalized: four in Luverne, two in Magnolia and one in Kenneth.
Thursday, Sept. 17, two vandalisms occurred, one in Kenneth and one in Luverne.
On Friday, Sept. 18, the last seven complaints were reported from homes in all three areas: five in Luverne, one in Kenneth and one in Magnolia.
As of press time, Sheriff Evan Verbrugge said no suspects had been named.
“These people continue to destroy mailboxes without any sense of ownership or care for someone else’s property,” Verbrugge said.
“These cases are frustrating because they happen so quickly. By the time (the owners) figure it out, the party is gone.”

•Don Bryan, Hardwick, is recuperating from a long, painful process of having one of his kidneys removed.
Bryan, 47, underwent countless blood tests, had no food or water for three days after surgery, lost 15 pounds, and today still has difficulty laughing or coughing because doctors removed a rib in the process of taking his kidney.
Despite all this, he insists it was a small thing to do for a brother who needed his help. Bryan volunteered to donate one of his kidneys to his brother Dale Bryan, Jasper, who needed the transplant.
“This was a very, very, very minor inconvenience for me compared to what Dale’s been through,” he said. “When it’s someone you care about it’s all worthwhile…If it made his life better for two days, it’s worth it for me.”
The kidney transplant from brother to brother, however, will improve Dale’s quality of life for what the doctor’s hope will be many years.
