•After an overcast, humid day Saturday, storm clouds gathered in the southwest and delivered a downpour in Luverne and much of Rock County Saturday night.
According to volunteer weather recorder Troy Thone, Luverne officially received about a half inch of rain in the storm, but he said it all came in the span of about 20 minutes, which would be about 1.5 inches per hour.
“This is very heavy rainfall and comes just short of being classified as ‘violent rainfall,’ which is 2.0 inches per hour,” Thone said.
The rain arrived around 7 p.m. and, along with it, hail fell in pebble-sized stones that accumulated on top of swirling water in streets and gutters.

•Architects explained a possible site plan for a new elementary school and preliminary sketches of a middle school addition to the Luverne School Board, Monday.
The proposal is based on ideas from staff and the Strategic Planning Committee.
The proposed location for the 97,248-square-foot elementary school is a 40-acre site north and east of the intersection of Blue Mound Avenue and East Veterans Drive. …
The proposed cost of the elementary building, excluding costs for city soccer fields and ball diamonds on the grounds, is about $8,426,000. Architects Bob Abendroth and Bob Rego said a rough estimate of cost is $76 per square foot. That figure includes the cost of architectural and engineering fees and miscellaneous other costs such as soil tests, building permits and some equipment.
Architects also submitted three possible proposals for expanding part of the current high school for use as a middle school.
