•Luverne City Council members took action Tuesday to extend city sanitary sewer service to the Rock Veterinary Clinic.
The vet clinic’s private septic system needs to be replaced, and Dr. John Bowron has requested city sanitary service be extended to the property south of Interstate 90.
The property is currently outside city limits, but City Council members recognize annexation may be part of future plans.
“The hope is for future development to go out there,” said Mayor Andy Steensma. “Especially once the airport is done.”
The current city sanitary system serves the Magnolia Steakhouse, Pamida and the implement dealership.
It ends just south of the implement property.
The cost of running gravity sewer to the property is $42,000, and Vet Clinic owners will pay an $18,000 assessment.

•The Lewis and Clark Rural Water System won another small victory in its quest to bring water to southwest Minnesota.
At a public hearing of about 60 people in Luverne Saturday, the water project proponents presented their good news and reviewed their plan.
If approved, the Lewis and Clark system would supplement existing water supplies by bringing Missouri River water to 22 communities and rural water systems in eastern South Dakota, northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. …
The proposed regional system would bring about 23.5 million gallons of water per day at peak demand, serving 180,500 people at a cost of $.78 per 1,000 gallons. Luverne residents currently pay $1 per 1,000 gallons.

The board of directors is composed of Herman Fitzer, L.D. Long, A.D. LaDue, E.W. Brown, and C.H. Christopherson. After the election of these men, they in turn elected the following as officers:
Herman Fitzer, president; A.D. LaDue, vice president; and O.P. Huntington, secretary and treasurer. The office of the association will be in the First National Bank.
The association is in reality a branch of the Federal Loan Banking of St. Paul, and the purpose of forming the local organization is to assist any land owner, to become a borrower from the United States Government without the handicap of the delay and the red tape necessary in dealing direct with the Federal Land Bank.
