•An Adrian senior became the school’s ninth state champion during the Minnesota State Class AA Individual Wrestling Tournament staged at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul March 3-6.
Stephen Loosbrock entered the event ranked second at 171 pounds in Class AA.
After winning four straight decisions, including three against ranked wrestlers, it was Loosbrock who was celebrating the 171-pound championship at tournament’s end.
Loosbrock ends the season with a 46-2 record.
“It was pretty fun,” said Loosbrock, when summing up his four-day experience.
“Coming into the season, I knew I could place if I got back to the state tournament (he was 0-1 at the state class last year). Winning at state was something I didn’t think a lot about.”

•A somewhat different trend in the ever-rising tax picture in the nation was indicated by Rock county’s townships Tuesday when four of the 12 voted to reduce their levies for 1971. Eight held the line, and voted to leave their levies the same. Only two increased their levies. Overall, the townships levied $129,500 to operate their governments and maintain their roads in 1971. This is drawn form the $137,000 they levied for this year, and up form the $109,000 levied for 1969.
Tuesday was annual meeting and election day in the townships, and for the most part, only the usual handful of men was on hand to do the voting. The exceptions were in Kanaranzi, Springwater and Clinton townships.

•Superintendent of Schools M. C. Munson, and all members of the faculty of the Luverne high and grade schools, have been reelected by the board of education.
Mr. Munson was re-elected last evening, but his salary had not been fixed by the board at the time the Star-Herald went to press.
Due to increased living costs, other faculty members were given increases of $100 per year above the regular schedule of increases which in years past has been $100 for men and $50 for ladies. This year, men received increases of $200 per month, while the ladies received $150 more than they did during a year ago.

•The present week is proving a most opportune time for the people of Luverne to observe the need of and advantages that will accrue from having properly installed storm sewer systems.
When the storm sewer project came up for consideration last summer quite a number of taxpayers felt that the sewers were not a necessity, and that the city should get along with its present drainage system. The bond issue of $24,000 for this purpose, however, carried by a big majority.
This spring, like practically every other spring, most near-surface drainage outlets were filled with ice, before the heavy snow fall last week.
