•The Luverne Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its Home, Health and Garden show Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Cardinal gym and commons.
What used to be the Luverne Home Show will now include health and garden issues.

•Luverne and Magnolia school boards are considering starting classes one-half hour earlier to better accommodate student activities.
School bells presently ring in Luverne and Magnolia at 8:30 a.m.
 
50 years ago (1966)
•Luverne’s volunteer fire department has been after a new fire hall for several years now. But, they haven’t been able to come to an agreement on the matter with the city council. …
The council statement made public last fall announced they would only build a municipal building or fire hall on ground owned by the city and flatly rejected the old creamery building as a possibility.
 
75 years ago (1941)
•Leslie Charter, who was captured Wednesday of last week after attempting to hold up Van’s service station on highway 16 east of Beaver Creek and robbing another filling station at Dell Rapids, S.D., is known as the one-time South Dakota “baby bank robber.”
 
100 years ago (1916)
•The mystery surrounding the disappearance of John Kelley, auditor of Rock county, who disappeared on Jan. 25th, was solved Tuesday afternoon when his body was found about a mile and a half northeast of the city. The body was lying in about sixteen inches of water close to a high bank of the river where the warm rays of the sun during the past week and the water from melting snow had cut away the ice for a small space.
