•Sometime in September the next segment of Interstate 90 in Rock county will be opened if all goes well. The section will be part of a 7.2 miles stretch completed this summer from the Rock River to the Nobles county line.
With the completion this year of the seven miles of I-90 east of the Rock River, there will be a total of around $5,529,000 of Interstate Highway through Rock county. …

•The new part of Luverne park, situated on the west side of the Rock river, which includes the fine new $65,000 swimming pool and black top tennis courts, protected from river overflow by rock riprapped banks of the river and a new dam for flood control, was the part that attracted the greatest number of people on dedication Sunday. It was there that the sports program was carried out and it was really this part of the park which was being dedicated since the part on the east side of the river has been park property for a great many years, although not as highly improved as it now is.

•John Shannon, a farm laborer, is confined in the county jail, accused of twice shooting his companion, C.L. Hodges, at an early hour Sunday morning on the Noonan farm in Springwater township. Hodges has since been in a hospital at Sioux Falls, but according to the latest reports his condition is such as to warrant his being present at the preliminary examination to be held in Luverne this afternoon. …
Hodges received a bullet wound in an arm and another in one of his hips, one of the bullets grazing his left cheek.
