10 years ago (2005)
•Luverne is improving upon its reputation for quality parks this summer, as it has almost every year, by adding more equipment. The Louie the Lion drinking fountain was one of several new pieces of park equipment the city has installed in its various parks around town.
 
25 years ago (1995)
•Graduates of the former Magnolia High School showed up in force last weekend to celebrate their all-school reunion at the VFW, Luverne. More than 360 Magnolia High School alumni met to eat, drink, dance, and most of all, reminisce about old times.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•Checks totaling $21,948.25 will be mailed to 1964 patrons of the Luverne Cooperative Creamery Association this week, A.H. Petersen announced. The payments represent the producers’ share of the 1964 earnings of the association, Petersen said, and amounts to approximately three cents per hundred weight for all the milk sold to the creamery in 1964.
 
75 years ago (1940)
 •The ardent disciples of Izaak Walton that abound so profusely in Luverne and surrounding community will soon have the opportunity to catch good sized game fish in the Rock River. The game association in the Lyon county metropolis released 61,000 crappies and pike, large enough to provide good angling, in the Rock river above the Rock Rapids dam.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•For a people not having a celebration in their home town the citizens of Luverne were pretty well entertained on their nation’s natal day. There were celebrations in a number of the surrounding towns, while in Luverne there was the chautauqua and a series of good ball games, thus offering a variety of considerable extent. In fact, a three-day celebration was possible, and likewise enjoyed by some.
