MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184,
ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA
A special meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office on April 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The following members were present: Randy Sasker, Michael DeBates, Tim Jarchow, Eric Hartman, Zach Nolz, Heather Johnson, and Ryan DeBates. Also present: Craig Oftedahl, Jason Phelps, Stacy Gillette, Madeline Jones, Shelley Krueger, Tom Rops, Monica Edstrom, Amy Lysne, Pam Christensen, Ann Robinson, Sam Goldsmith, Jill Wagner, Marie Atkinson-Smeins, Susan Bullerman, Jessica Van Batavia, Madilyn Oye, Jason Berghorst, Becky Rahm, Morgan VanHolland, and Mavis Fodness – Rock County Star Herald.
Chairperson Eric Hartman opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Ryan DeBates, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Administrative Report was given.
Superintendent Craig Oftedahl shared that over the past few years’ enrollment has been slowly declining. Mr. Oftedahl and Principals, Gillette, Phelps and Johnson, went over the measures that have been taken so far to improve the budget for the upcoming year. These measures would consist of possible human resources changes with possible cost savings of $424,722, reduction in supply resources with possible cost savings of $544,000.00, and new sources of revenue added to the unassigned fund balance with a possible additional revenue of $260,910.00. Combing these 3 areas would improve the total budget by $1,229,682.00.
Motion made by Zach Nolz, second by Michael DeBates, to approve the retirement of Colette Hansen as Activities Administrative Assistant as of May 21, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Heather Johnson, second by Tim Jarchow, to approve the retirement of Gordie Hansen as 5th grade teacher. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Randy Sasker, to approve the termination and non-renewal of probationary teacher Ashley Mundt. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Heather Johnson, to approve the termination and non-renewal of probationary teacher Jesse Lonneman. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Heather Johnson, second by Tim Jarchow, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
