MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184,
ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA
A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office on May 22, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
The following members were present: Michael DeBates, Eric Hartman, Tim Jarchow, Zach Nolz, Randy Sasker, Ryan DeBates and Heather Johnson. Also present: Craig Oftedahl, Terry Eernisse, Jason Phelps, Jason Berghorst, Zander Carbonneau, Tyler Hodge, Olivia Lund and Mavis Fodness - Rock County Star Herald.
Chairperson Eric Hartman opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. It was noted there is an addendum to the agenda. Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Zach Nolz, to approve the agenda with the addendum. Motion unanimously carried.
Elementary Counselor Marie Atkinson-Smeins reviewed her program curriculum, goals, and projects for the past school year.
Administrative reports were given.
Motion made by Randy Sasker, seconded by Ryan DeBates, to approve the April 24, 2025, school board meeting minutes as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Randy Sasker, second by Heather Johnson, to approve the summer contracts as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Randy Sasker, to approve the raise in price for student driver’s education to $395 per student. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Ryan DeBates, seconded by Zach Nolz to approve USD student, Gracie Bucher to complete her practicum at Luverne Schools from September 2025 to May 2026 with Renee Guy. Motion unanimously carried.
Business Manager Terry Eernisse received the District and student activity bills with the board. Motion made by Ryan DeBates, second by Michael DeBates to approve the payment of the bills in the amount of $575,230.72 and payroll in the amount of $1,183,743.15 for a grand total of $1,758,973.87. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Zach Nolz to receive the Student Activity Report showing the balances as of April 30, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Zach Nolz, second by Heather Johnson, to approve the recommendation of eliminating 1 Prom advisor. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Ryan DeBates, to accept the resignation of Morgan VanHolland as Assistant Spring Musical Director. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Michael DeBates, second by Ryan DeBates to accept the resignation of Kaitlyn Maschino as paraprofessional effective May 16, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Zach Nolz, second by Tim Jarchow, to accept the resignation of Michaela VanGrootheest as paraprofessional effective May 20, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Randy Sasker, second by Zach Nolz, to approve the hiring of Jesse Lonneman as Elementary teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Michael DeBates, second by Tim Jarchow, to approve the maternity leave of Jesse Lonneman effective August 25, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Ryan DeBates, second by Tim Jarchow, to accept the resignation of Hope Curry as 5th Grade teacher effective May 22, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Heather Johnson, second by Zach Nolz, to accept the retirement of Pam Christensen, 3rd grade teacher effective at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Ryan DeBates, second by Randy Sasker, to accept the retirement of Bill Korth effective May 23, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Ryan DeBates, second by Tim Jarchow, to approve the maternity leave of Rylie Haugen effective September 9, 2025. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Ryan DeBates, second by Zach Nolz, to accept the resignation of Jon Schomacker as MS baseball coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Heather Johnson, to accept the resignation of Jeff Stratton as MS baseball coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Ryan DeBates, second by Michael DeBates, to approve the hiring of Gordie Hansen as long term sub for Elementary. Motion unanimously carried.
Committee Reports were given.
The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed. Motion made by Tim Jarchow, second by Ryan DeBates, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
