MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184,

ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA

A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office on February 26, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.

The following members were present: Ryan DeBates, Heather Johnson, Michael DeBates, Eric Hartman, Tim Jarchow, Zach Nolz, and David Wrigg. Also present:  Craig Oftedahl, Terry Eernisse, Stacy Gillette, Jason Phelps, Ryan Johnson, Sam Goldsmith, Jason Berghorst, Peter Janiszeski, Deb Hoogendoorn, Stacey Thone, Lori Oechsle, Becky Rahm, Megan Klumper, Angie Hageman, Kathy Hawes, Tom Rops, Amy Sahly, Courtney Auch, Amy Lysne, Angela Ahrendt, Caroline Thorson, Jill Wagner, Marie Atkinson-Smeins and Nicole Ronchetti- Rock County Star Herald.

Chairperson Eric Hartman opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  It was noted there is an addendum to the agenda. Motion made by Michael DeBates, seconded by Tim Jarchow, to approve the agenda and the addendum. Motion unanimously carried.

Administrative reports were given.

Motion made by Heather Johnson, seconded by David Wrigg, to approve the January 22, 2026, school board meeting minutes as presented. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Ryan DeBates, seconded by Tim Jarchow, to approve the following donations.

Mark Helling Agency - $100 - LHS Boosters

New Vision - $500 - FFA

Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by David Wrigg, seconded by Michael DeBates, to approve payment of the district and student activity bills as presented: District bills - $591,403.13; Payroll - $1,180,630.02; Grand Total - $1,772,033.15. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Tim Jarchow, seconded by Ryan DeBates, to accept the Student Activity Report showing the balances as of January 31, 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Heather Johnson, seconded by Ryan DeBates, to approve the Pay Equity compliance report for 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Zach Nolz, seconded by Tim Jarchow to table the discussion of the 2026-2027 school calendar discussion.

Motion made by Ryan DeBates, seconded by Tim Jarchow to accept the retirement of Bill Thompson effective May 21, 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Michael DeBates, seconded by Heather Johnson to accept the retirement of Chris Nowatzki effective May 21, 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Tim Jarchow, seconded by Zach Nolz to approve Jon Schomacker as Summer Recreation Director at a salary of $10,200.00. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by David Wrigg, seconded by Michael DeBates to approve the hiring of Yui Power as custodian. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Heather Johnson, seconded by Tim Jarchow to approve the hiring of Paula Lammert as long term substitute teacher for MS/HS Art effective February 23, 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Ryan DeBates, seconded by Heather Johnson to approve Jill Boltjes as volunteer for FCCLA. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Tim Jarchow, seconded by Michael DeBates to approve medical leave of approximately two weeks for Chris Nowatzki effective February 23, 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Motion made by Zach Nolz, seconded by David Wrigg to approve the Licensed Staff Seniority List for 2026. Motion unanimously carried.

Committee reports were given.

Heather Johnson reported that Community Education screened 33 kids this winter for preschool screening. The Women’s Giving Circle will be hosting a Co-Ed volleyball tournament with funds to be donated to Community Ed. Heather also shared that the Summer Community Education Activities book will come out at the end of April.

Zach Nolz shared that the Wellness committee is just getting back together and had a meeting to brainstorm some ideas that can be incorporated into staff in-service days and with students throughout the year.

Tim Jarchow shared that the Negotiation committee and the teachers’ union have not settled on a contract and will be going to mediation.

The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed. Motion made by Tim Jarchow, seconded by Zach Nolz, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
