Sioux Valley announces EmPOWER Youth Leadership Scholarships

Scholarship winners from the 2014-15 Class of EmPOWER Youth Leadership students were announced at Sioux Valley Energy’s annual meeting June 2.
This was the culminating event of a yearlong leadership and development training program involving 32 area sophomore and junior students.
Twelve students received $5,350 worth of scholarship awards.  Thea Richards of Hills-Beaver Creek High School was awarded $750.
During the yearlong program, Thea took on many leadership roles.  She was selected to serve on the Advisory Committee that will assist with program development for the incoming youth leadership students.
She was also selected by a group of her peers to the Co-ops Yes! Youth Board and will be traveling to educational events in Wisconsin and Virginia over the next few weeks.
Sioux Valley Energy also sponsored three students who joined over 1,700 other high school students from across the country on the Washington, D.C., Youth Tour on June 13–18. Thea was one of the selected students.
Among other scholarship recipients were Luverne High School’s Hannah Hoogland, $400, and Ryleigh Beers and Samantha Ykema, $250 each.
