This year Rock County Opportunities (RCO) is facing a new challenge that affects not only work opportunities for our clients, but local seniors who have benefited from a service that helps them remain independent, living in their own home.

RCO recently received a notification from one of our long-standing partners that the funding to provide free laundry and cleaning services for seniors will end on Dec. 31, 2024, in Rock County.

The short notice has challenged RCO as a small nonprofit to find an alternative funding source for the next calendar year. Most grant opportunities that support operations like this have closed for the 2025 calendar year.

The sudden loss of funding has created a significant barrier to meeting the needs of both seniors and adults with disabilities.

This program serves a critical need for senior citizens and has been instrumental in empowering our clients to gain hands-on experience and essential skills that enhance their employability and self-esteem.

We are turning to compassionate individuals and organizations in our community for help in raising $15,000 to cover the cost of these services for the coming year. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us reach our goal.

The kind people in and around Luverne and the Rock County area have always been supportive of RCO’s mission and our success, and we hope that will continue.

If you are interested in supporting this cause, donations can be mailed or dropped off directly at RCO. Donations can also be made to the Luverne Area Community Foundation in support of RCO.

The RCO board and staff can’t say thanks enough for all that our community members have done to support our clients and families.
