On Monday night the Luverne Area Community Foundation hosted its annual “Friends of the Foundation Celebration of Philanthropy” at Take 16.
The event recognizes and celebrates businesses, nonprofits and individuals who benefit from and support the foundation’s mission of strengthening the community.
Among the groups and individuals at the packed Take 16 event center were people from diverse backgrounds, professions and community involvement.
But at that time in that place, they all shared one thing in common: They all care enough about a local cause to put their time, resources and talents to meet needs that may go unmet if not for their efforts.
The causes are as diverse as the people in the room. They include history, fine arts, youth, the food shelf, seniors, people with disabilities, health care, brain health and many more.
Attending the celebration event is an opportunity to experience the generous and ambitious energy and learn about the priceless impact the groups and individuals are making in the community.
Another thing everyone in the room had in common was their tie to the Luverne Area Community Foundation, the organization that helps to nurture their missions and support their causes.
Most nonprofits are born from a mission to meet a need, and by leaning on the LACF as the umbrella organization, they can spend less time on legal paperwork and financial management.
And this means they can spend their energies and resources meeting local needs and fulfilling important missions.
The Star Herald has been honored to cover the annual event since it first began eight years ago. The story about the 2024 event appears on page 2 of this week’s publication.
We find it newsworthy for a number of reasons, but mostly, the annual “celebration of philanthropy” is an important reminder that this generosity and spirit of giving is what makes Rock County communities so special.
Kudos to the LACF and to all the volunteers and organizations that make our communities better.
