Ronnal M. “Ron” McClure, 69, Luverne, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Pipestone.
A funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 14, at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne with burial at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Ronnal McClure was born July 1, 1946, to Homer and Mae (Johnson) McClure in Alexandria. He graduated from Magnolia High School in 1964 and continued his education at Alexandria Vocational School. He enlisted in the Minnesota Army National Guard where he served in the Luverne Unit. He worked as a parts man after his education until moving to Pipestone in 1969 and starting his career as a police officer. He moved to Luverne in 1977 and joined the Rock County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. In 1990 Ron was elected sheriff of Rock County and served three terms. He retired in 2002 and helped his sons at McClure Construction.
Ron was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. He was also a member of the Minnesota Sheriffs Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, baseball, basketball, bowling, shooting pool and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife, Katie McClure, Luverne; two sons, Chad (Christine) McClure and Matt (Amanda) McClure, all of Luverne; his stepchildren, Brian (Meegan) Miller, Luverne, Theresa Miller, Omaha, Nebraska, and Matt (Beth) King, Pierre, South Dakota; his mother, Mae McClure, Luverne; a brother, Jerry (Danette) McClure, Magnolia; his mother-in-law, Helen Woelber, Pipestone; and many other relatives and friends.
Ron was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Jim; a sister, Penelope; and his grandparents.
